FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HCC TO HOST 2003 SOUTHEASTERN WILDLIFE CONCLAVE
HCC’s Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society will host the 2003 Southeastern Wildlife Conclave on campus for the first time Thursday, March 20 through Saturday, March 22. Over twenty 4-year universities and colleges will be competing in a variety of events.
As host college, HCC will not be able to compete this year. They have made impressive showings at the competition in the past including being first place in the academic quiz bowl competition last year.
The conclave will consist of field trips, competitions, a quiz bowl, workshops, and an awards banquet. The field trips will take participants to many diverse areas such as the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Pisgah National Forest, and the Cradle of Forestry in America. Creative and talent competitions will include an essay, art entries, and photography. Other areas of competition include game calling, individual field competition, an obstacle course, archery, rowboat, dendrology, orienteering, .22 rifle plunking, and a team competition.
On Thursday, March 20, there will be a Game Calling Competition at the L. J. Harrell Center Auditorium at the Lake Junaluska Assembly at 7:30 p.m. The quiz bowl will be held in two sessions. The first session will be on Friday, March 21 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium. The second session will be on Saturday, March 22 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium. Individual field and team competitions will be at Camp Daniel Boone on Saturday, March 22 from 1:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. The public is invited to observe the field competitions.
