HCC’S STUDENTS IN FREE ENTREPRISE NAMED CHAMPIONS AT REGIONAL COMPETITION

Haywood Community College’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was recently named one of two champions in their league at Regional Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina. Students Kitina Houck, Luz Ramos, and Karla Kriter represented the team. Joseph Fox, HCC Office Systems Technology instructor and team advisor, accompanied them. Fox was recognized as a Sam Walton Fellow and awarded a plaque.

The HCC SIFE team presented a presentation that provided an overview of projects completed throughout the year. In competition with other community colleges, the HCC team was awarded the Championship Award for community service blood drives, Business Ethics Seminar, Financial Independence Day projects, Entrepreneurship Seminar, Dressing for Success Workshop, and Resume Writing Workshop.

As Champions, the HCC team will advance to the SIFE National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri. The league in which HCC competed consisted of Somerset Community College in London, Kentucky, Northeast State Technical Community College in Blountville, Tennessee (also named champions), Fayetteville Community College in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Virginia. The competition consisted of six leagues and thirty colleges.
