HCC’S ADULT BASIC SKILLS DEPARTMENT RECIEVES FUNDING FOR ITS STEPPING STONES TO EMPLOYMENT GRANT
Haywood Community College’s Compensatory Education Program of the Adult Basic Skills Department is proud to announce that its Stepping Stones to Employment grant has received third year funding. The funding is $24,997 for this final year.
Stepping Stones provides participants with basic work skills, opportunities for job exploration and shadowing, and job-seeking/job-keeping skills through the HRD Department. It hopes to improve the transition from Compensatory Education work skills and HRD classes into supportive and competitive employment through job exploration and shadowing. Stepping Stones is a collaborative educational effort of Compensatory Education, Human Resources Development, Haywood Vocational Opportunities, Inc, Vocational Rehabilitation, Job Link and local employers to help the participants to obtain and maintain employment in the community.
There are currently three grant classes and 15 participants in the program. The classes are taught by Elizabeth Hembree, grant manager, at the Job Link Annex and Carroll Vernon at HVO. The participants have formed a Job Club for support and information and have created a grant website.
