UNVEILING HELD AT HCC’S M.C. NIX HORTICULTURE COMPLEX
Haywood Community College recently unveiled a new display honoring HCC’s founding president, M.C. Nix. The new display is located in the Horticulture Complex on the HCC campus. HCC faculty and staff joined HCC President Nathan Hodges and the Nix family for the ceremony. All of Nix’s children, Barbara Jean Nix Cathey, David Nix, Mike Nix, and Bobby Nix, as well as their spouses and two grandsons attended the ceremony.
Addressing those in attendance, Hodges said, "We are here today to honor and remember a unique individual who laid the foundation and set the course for this fine institution."
According to Bobby Nix, the decision for his father to leave the classroom as a teacher to begin the HCC endeavor was an especially hard one because of his passion to teach. "But my father once told me his decision to come to HCC was also the most rewarding," Bobby said.
Nix served as HCC president from 1965 to 1977 and was named "President Emeritus."
