HCC TO HOLD RECEPTION HONORING SARA QUEEN BROWN
The Haywood Community College faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees will hold a reception honoring Sara Queen Brown on Thursday, August 28 at 5 p.m. The reception will be held in the first floor lobby of the Student Center and is open to the community. The reception will celebrate Brown’s 20 years of service as a member of the HCC Board of Trustees.
Brown is a Haywood County native and served as Executive Director at Mountain Projects, Inc. where she retired with 22 years of service. She was a valued member of the planning committee that guided the development of HCC. Governor James Hunt first appointed her to the HCC Board of Trustees in 1983 for an eight-year term. By Brown’s exemplary service, she was reappointed by the Haywood County Board of Commissioners. From November 1995 to October 1999, Brown served as Chair and Vice Chair. She has also served as Chair of the Committee on Educational and Student Affairs. In January 2000, Brown was appointed to serve on the HCC Foundation Board.
Dr. Nathan Hodges, HCC President said, "Sara has served the college and Board of Trustees faithfully and unselfishly, giving generously of her time, experience, and expertise and providing strong leadership. She has demonstrated the highest possible standards of personal integrity in the performance of her duties and responsibilities to help this institution achieve its full potential. We are deeply appreciative of the many hours she has spent in service at HCC."
