HCC STUDENTS CLAIM FIRST PLACE FOR THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR AT WOODSMEN’S MEET

Haywood Community College students win first place for the fourth consecutive year at the 2003 Forest Festival Day Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet. The meet was held on October 4 at the Cradle of Forestry and was the largest attendance to date according to the Forest Service.

HCC had trailed the competition all day but in the final event, HCC Forestry Club President, Tray Norman, claimed the victory, which also sealed the fate of the team. The HCC students were presented a $700 chainsaw and safety equipment from the Stihl Corporation. Stihl also supplied event T-shirts, caps, and a BBQ awards banquet.
