HCC VOLUNTEER CLUB PLANS GREAT SMOKY BATTLE FOR THE LANDS BENEFIT CONCERT
The Haywood Community College Volunteer Club will hold the Great Smoky Battle for the Land Benefit Concert at Soco Moon Teahouse on Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature the Travelers Club and Clear Style, Toa Jones featuring Chris Minnick, Marshall Ballew, Mark Stevenson, and Ed Kelley, Acoustic Flavored Waterrock by HCC’s own Bob Pinkston, Native American flutist and blues man, Mark Mounce, and simplistic folk by Wendy Biller. Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at HCC by calling 627-4560 or at Soco Moon Teahouse. Soco Moon is located at 319 North Haywood Street in Waynesville.
The HCC Volunteer Club focuses on cleaning up areas in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The goal of the group is to get people involved in volunteer work. Funds from the Great Smoky Battle for the Lands will go directly to the club to buy tools for maintenance and repairs for trails and facilities in the park. The benefit will also help raise awareness for the parks "Leave No Trace" program. The program teaches campers outdoors skills and ethics procedures to follow. It is a way to preserve and protect the land in the national park. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes.
Sponsors for this event include: Soco Moon, Friends of the Smokies, Maria’s Mexican Restaurant, Ridge Runners Naturals, Inc., Wright’s Stained Glass Studio, and David Burnette.
