HCC Public Information Office Wins National Marketing Award

The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations awarded Haywood Community College a Bronze Paragon Award in the category, Promotion Campaign for a Special Event. The award was recently announced at the national conference held in Baltimore, MD. The Paragon Awards is an annual competition that recognizes excellence in communication exclusively for two-year colleges. This year, the competition included more than 1,600 entries from community colleges all over the nation.

Literature and special exhibit materials for the award winning promotion campaign, "Touch the Future", were designed, written and edited by Debra McCracken Davis, HCC Coordinator of Marketing and Public Information. Developed to promote the HCC Foundation’s capital campaign for the construction of the new Regional Model Child Development Center, the objective of the campaign was to solicit funds to build the new Center. In addition to soliciting money, Davis said the materials were also used to increase the general public’s awareness of the need for a new childcare center and also to spotlight childcare issues of concern to all parents and the community. The underlying theme of the campaign was "better childcare today will result in a better future for us all."

Photography by Davis featuring children in the existing HCC childcare center and from surrounding area childcare centers was used as illustrations in the campaign package. The campaign package included several promotional pieces—a case statement, letterhead, envelopes, a pledge card, a presentation folder and insert sheets, an advertisement, press packets, an invitation to the capital campaign announcement breakfast, promotional posters and headers, and an expanded promotional traveling display.

This marks the fourth year that HCC’s public information office has won Paragon awards—two gold and two bronze— in the promotion campaign category.

HCC’ public information office has also received Paragon awards in the print advertisement and the viewbook categories.
