Local gardeners will find a bit of local history and scenery in the June 2004 issue of Carolina Gardener magazine. The magazine features a story on the Haywood Community College gardens and the contributions to the design of the gardens made by landscape architect, Doan Ogden. Since then, Ogden has been recognized as one of Western North Carolina’s master landscape architects. John Palmer, Director of the campus arboretum and an HCC instructor said, "We were lucky to find Mr. Ogden when we did. His gifts were evident right from the beginning."

The article features photos of the campus grounds made by the HCC Public Information Office.

Starting now, visitors to HCC can tour the renowned Rhododendron Garden and enjoy the bevy of beautiful blooms. In addition to the native Smoky Mountain rhododendron, the garden also features many exotic and specialty hybrid plants.
