LARRY LEATHERWOOD APPOINTED TO THE NC ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEES EXECUTIVE BOARD
Larry Leatherwood, Acting Chair of the Haywood Community College Board of Trustees, has been appointed to the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees Executive Board for a two-year term to begin July 1, 2004. He represents Region 1. There are two representatives from the six trustee regions in the state.
The Executive Board is empowered by the membership to make necessary decisions for the membership during the interim period between annual meetings. It is also charged with the responsibility to make sure the management office staff operates in a legal and efficient manner. The Executive Board makes recommendations to the full membership at its Annual Meeting on matters that the membership must act upon.
Leatherwood was appointed by Governor Michael Easley to serve on HCC’s Board of Trustees. Leatherwood is currently project manager for Clark and Leatherwood, Incorporated. He spent 30 years as a teacher and school administrator with the Haywood County School System.
Leatherwood received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Wake Forest University, a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Tennessee, a doctorate from Peabody College in Education Administration, and a specialist degree in community college leadership from Western Carolina University.
The Haywood County native is a member of the Rotary Club, Jonathan Creek Fire Department, Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Haywood County Schools Foundation, and the Community Playground Committee. Leatherwood is Chair of the HCC Foundation’s Capital Campaign to raise $1 million for completion of the new Regional Model Child Development Center on the HCC campus. He enjoys sports officiating, farming, golf, and reading.
