HCC PROFESSIONAL CRAFTS FIBER STUDENTS A SUCCESS IN NATIONAL FIBER ART SHOW
Six Haywood Community College professional crafts fiber students were selected from over 60 entrants from 18 different schools for the 2004 Schacht Spindle Company Student Showcase. Cindy Hall, Julie Stefano, Brenda Tuckey, Sally Patton, Elisabeth Reed, and Susan Zakanycz represented HCC at this juried show. Cindy Hall and Susan Zakanycz received a Category Award earning each of them a $200 gift certificate for Schacht Spindle Company. Brenda Tuckey received Honorable Mention, earning a special edition Schacht Spindle Colorwood Weaving Shuttle. HCC had the highest number of students chosen to participate from any individual school.
The mission of this show of university student fiber artwork is to encourage fiber art students in their pursuit and exploration of the textile arts. The show highlights current university work and the direction in which handweaving is moving. Schacht Spindle Company is one of the largest handweaving loom and spinning wheel manufacturers in the world. Pieces in the Schacht Student Showcase are on view through August 31 at the company in Boulder, Colorado.
There are currently openings in the professional crafts fiber program for Fall Semester 2004. Fall registration at HCC is Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information on the professional crafts fiber program at HCC or how to apply, please call Student services at 627-4500.
