HCC REGIONAL MODEL CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER RECEIVES GRANT FROM HOMETRUST BANK
The Haywood Community College Regional Model Child Development Center has received a $30,000 grant over a 3-year period from HomeTrust Bank. HomeTrust Bank is a full-service community bank that preserves the unique heritage, identity, and culture of serving our communities. According to Ed Broadwell, CEO and President of HomeTrust Bank, this contribution allows the bank to continue its commitment to providing greater educational opportunities to area citizens.
"HomeTrust Bank is excited to participate in a project that will provide state-of-the-art teaching and training for future day care owners and workers," Broadwell said. "In this era of single parenting and dual working households, it is imperative that dependable, quality childcare be available for our children. The Child Development Center will provide a place where excellent programs are available for the young children of Haywood County, as well as improve employment opportunities for graduates of the HCC child development program."
The new HCC Regional Model Child Development Center will serve 163 children, including 24 much needed spaces for infants. The 20,300 square foot center will offer day, evening and after school programs. The center will provide distance educational opportunities for childcare professionals across the county and region, as well as provide a model teaching facility for the training of childcare workers. It will also be a family resource for counseling and training in parenting and family issues. Situated on the HCC campus, the center is designed to foster growth and creativity while drawing upon the beauty of its natural surroundings.
According to HCC Foundation Executive Director Laura Leatherwood, construction will begin on the center later this year. For more information about the Regional Model Child Development Center, or the capital campaign, please contact the HCC Foundation Office at 627-4544.
