HCC REGIONAL MODEL CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE KIWANIS CLUB
The Haywood Community College Regional Model Child Development Center has received a $1500 grant from the Waynesville Kiwanis Club over the next three years. The Kiwanis Club is an organization of service and community minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. The club evaluates children’s issues and community needs on ongoing basis and conduct service projects to respond to those identified needs.
"The Waynesville Kiwanis Club is proud to be a part of the new HCC Regional Model Child Development Center," says Howard Kline, Lieutenant Governor for the Carolinas District of Kiwanis International covering areas of Western North Carolina from counties west of Buncombe. "We look forward to being involved for the next three years and into the future."
The new HCC Regional Model Child Development Center will serve 163 children, including 24 much needed spaces for infants. The 20,300 square foot center will offer day, evening and after school programs. The center will provide distance educational opportunities for childcare professionals across the county and region, as well as provide a model teaching facility for the training of childcare workers. It will also be a family resource for counseling and training in parenting and family issues. Situated on the HCC campus, the center is designed to foster growth and creativity while drawing upon the beauty of its natural surroundings.
According to HCC Foundation Executive Director Laura Leatherwood, construction will begin on the center later this year. For more information about the Regional Model Child Development Center, or the capital campaign, please contact the HCC Foundation Office at 627-4544.
