HCC REGIONAL MODEL CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER RECEIVES GRANT FROM WAYNESVILLE ROTARY CLUB
The Haywood Community College Regional Model Child Development Center has received a $10,000 grant over a three-year period from the Rotary Club of Waynesville. Rotarians believe in service above self and according to current Rotary Club president, Patsy Rogers, the money donated to the child care center is a way to give back to the community.
"This is a way that Rotarians can improve the quality of life for young children in Haywood County," Rogers explained. "It’s a way to invest in the future of Haywood County. It will be an asset to many people from small children to HCC students and parents of the area."
The new HCC Regional Model Child Development Center will serve 163 children, including 24 much needed spaces for infants. The 20,300 square foot center will offer day, evening and after school programs. The center will provide distance educational opportunities for childcare professionals across the county and region, as well as provide a model teaching facility for the training of childcare workers. It will also be a family resource for counseling and training in parenting and family issues. Situated on the HCC campus, the center is designed to foster growth and creativity while drawing upon the beauty of its natural surroundings.
According to HCC Foundation Executive Director Laura Leatherwood, construction will begin on the center later this year. For more information about the Regional Model Child Development Center, or the capital campaign, please contact the HCC Foundation Office at 627-4544.
