HCC TO CELEBRATE ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY WITH STORYTELLING FESTIVAL
Haywood Community College in Clyde, North Carolina is making plans to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The birthday event, Mountain Echoes: A Homecoming, Reminiscing through Stories and Music, will be held on the HCC campus on Saturday, June 4, 2005. The daylong festival will celebrate the story of HCC and the rich cultural heritage that makes the Southern Appalachian region special.
All across campus, tents will be filled with the sounds of true mountain music by bands such as The Whitewater Bluegrass Company; some of the region’s best storytellers such as Sheila Kay Adams and David Holt have been invited; a fishing clinic; puppets and other activities just for kids; a crafts sale featuring past and present members of HCC’s Haywood Studios; exciting demonstrations in everything from auto body repair to cosmetology; global positioning systems to film making or forestry and wildlife management; and food—and more food; and finally, ghost stories around the mill pond.
Mountain Echoes is an event cosponsored by HCC and the HCC Foundation. More information on specific performers and a schedule of events will be available once details are finalized. Please plan to be a part of Mountain Echoes as HCC celebrates 40 years of providing service to Haywood County residents. For more information or to get involved, please call Laura Leatherwood, Director of the HCC Foundation and Chairperson of the Festival Planning Committee, at (828) 627-4544.
