HCC to Offer Seminar on Communicating Effectively with Limited English Speaking Customers and Employees

The Small Business Center of Haywood Community College will offer a free seminar entitled "Non-Verbal Communication for Managers and Supervisors: How to Communicate Effectively with Limited English Speaking Employees or Customers" on Tuesday, March 8, from 6-8 p.m. in the Student Center Building on the campus of HCC. On a daily basis we work with people whose native language, opinions, values, beliefs, and needs differ from our own. Our ability to successfully exchange ideas with others, understand other’s perspectives, and solve problems depends on how effectively we are able to communicate with others. What you say is not nearly as important as how you say it! This workshop will help you to discover and practice how to send clear, concise messages and to hear and correctly understand messages being sent. You will explore and practice the three components of communication: the words we choose, how we say the words, and our body language.

The presenter is Michael Caudill of Lake Junaluska. His company, InterCultural Advantage, helps clients better manage the problems and opportunities of cultural diversity. He holds a Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication for the School of International Service at the American University in Washington, DC. Over the last 14 years, his work and studies have taken him to 41 countries across Europe, the Balkans, the Near East, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. To preregister for this free seminar, call the Small Business Center at 627-4512.
