HCC FORESTRY CLUB TO HOLD BENEFIT SUPPER AND SILENT AUCTION FOR CLASSMATE
The Haywood Community College Forestry Club will hold a benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction for classmate Patrick Nichols on Monday, November 14. Take-outs will be available beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner starting at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the HCC cafeteria located in the Student Center. The silent auction will feature many items including a llama trek for four individuals to max Patch in the Pisgah National Forest. Music will also be provided.
Nichols is a student in the Forest Management Technology program and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He is president of the HCC Forestry Club and the Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters.
Two days after leading the team to a first place finish at Forest Festival Day in early October, Nichols had a motorcycle wreck that resulted in injuries paralyzing him from waist down.
"Patrick is a dynamic young man who contributed greatly to the woodsmen's team's recent victory by promoting a sense of team spirit and pride in the club members," said John Palmer, HCC Forestry Instructor and woodsmen's team coach. "With his "never give up" attitude, he hopes to resume classes very soon."
