Haywood Community College will hold a reception to welcome its new president, Dr. Rose H. Johnson, on Tuesday, January 24 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the HCC Library.

Since 2004, Johnson has been the Vice-Chancellor of Workforce Development Services for the Virginia Community College System in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to that she held other positions within the North Carolina Community College System and at a South Carolina Community College.

Dr. Johnson served as Vice President of Corporate and Continuing Education at Forsyth Technical Community College from 1996-2004. While there, she also served as the Executive Director of the Triad Entrepreneurial Initiative. In that role, she developed a regional (12 county) partnership program sponsored by Winston-Salem Alliance and Action Greensboro as a five-year demonstration project. From 1994-1996, she served as Dean of Continuing Education at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, SC. She spent 4 years as Director of Focused Industrial Training at Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, NC. Dr. Johnson also spent 4 years at Mayland Community College where she served as the Director of Occupational Extension and the Small Business Center, the Mitchell County Continuing Education Director and a part-time JTPA Coordinator.

Prior to joining the community college system in 1986, Dr. Johnson was the Director of Marketing and Community Relations and Associate Director of the Foundation for Sloop Memorial Hospital in Crossnore, NC.

Dr. Johnson received an Ed.D. from North Carolina State University in Adult and Community College Education, an Ed.S. from Appalachian State University in Adult Education. She received a master's from Appalachian State University and a bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College.

The HCC Library is located in the Freedlander Building. On the main campus, follow the main drive to the stop sign. Take a left and continue behind the buildings on the hill and park behind the second building, which is the Freedlander Building. Everyone is invited to attend.
