HCC WINS TWO NATIONAL MARKETING AWARDS

Haywood Community College has won two Paragon Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. This marks the sixth consecutive year the college has received an award. The single print ad, 40 Years of Making Moms Proud, was awarded a silver award. Mountain Echoes: A Homecoming also won a silver award for a promotional campaign for a special event. The awards were recently announced at the national conference held in Austin, Texas.

The Paragon Awards are an annual competition that recognizes excellence in communication exclusively for two-year colleges. This year the competition included almost 1,900 entries from community colleges all over the nation.



The concept and the design of the single print ad was created by Debra M. Davis, HCC Coordinator of Marketing and Design. The ad ran in local newspapers and specialty publications. It commemorates the college's 40 years of excellence in education. The ad featured HCC graduates with their mothers.



The promotion campaign for Mountain Echoes: A Homecoming was created to promote the first annual storytelling and music festival held on the campus of HCC. Part of the college's 40th anniversary celebration, the festival attracted a little over 3,000 guests to the college campus. A festival team of faculty, staff and volunteers were responsible for the marketing plan which included t-shirts, a commemorative poster, program of events, brochure, elementary coloring sheet, pocket performance schedule, volunteer thank you cards, flyers, postcards, tickets, invitations, parking permits, news releases and advertisements. Davis was responsible for the concept and design of the Mountain Echoes logo as well as the coordinating marketing pieces. Diana Conard, HCC Public Information Technician wrote many of the news releases and was responsible for making sure that the information was sent to all local calendar of events.

During the last six years, the HCC Public Information Office has won two gold, three silvers, and four bronze awards in categories such as: promotion campaign for a special event, viewbook, and single print advertisement.
