HCC INSTRUCTORS RECEIVE NATIONAL AWARDS
Haywood Community College business instructor, Patricia Smith, and business and office systems technology instructor, Joseph Fox, recently received national awards from the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education. The awards granted both instructors a full scholarship to attend the 24th Annual Entrepreneurship Education FORUM, as well as a commemorative plaque. The award was based on leadership and creativity in bringing entrepreneurship education to the schools.
The Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education is a national membership association of 85 organizations that advocate entrepreneurship education as a lifelong learning process and provide programs for youth and adults. The conference, held in Phoenix, brought over 350 teachers together to share program ideas and establish nationwide networks.
The announcement and planning for EntrepreneurshipWeek USA was a major priority at the annual conference. Teachers shared ideas for events in support of local entrepreneurs and their entrepreneurship education programs. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is sponsoring EntrepreneurshipWeek USA to be celebrated February 24 - March 3, 2007.
In recognition of the need for teachers to have the opportunities for professional development in teaching entrepreneurship, 110 teacher scholarships costing $70,000 were sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Coleman Foundation, Verdict Systems, National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, Mark-ED/Career Paths, DECA, Inc., FBLA-PBL, Business Professionals of America, NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation, CFED-REAL, National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Ohio Council on Economic Education, College of Entrepreneurship - Phoenix, Phoenix Area Planning Committee, and the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education.
