Two Haywood Community College nursing students, both with 4.0 grade point averages, were awarded the Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship. Heather Denton of Canton and Caroline Diana Quinn of Balsam were both recipients of the award.

The HRMC Auxiliary Scholarship awards students $500 for both fall and spring semesters. Applicants must display financial need, enroll in a health related field, be a full-time student, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Denton plans to continue her education after completing an associate degree at HCC with the Capstone Program at Western Carolina University. She plans to become a nurse practitioner.

"I plan on using my degree to help others in need and give a sense of purpose in the community," Denton said.

Quinn would like to gain experience after finishing the program at HCC by working as an operating room nurse at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Her ultimate goal is to continue her education to also become a nurse practitioner.
