Haywood Community College recently awarded funds from the new Academic Competitiveness Grant. The ACG is a federal need-based grant program that was designed to encourage high school students to participate in a rigorous curriculum so that the student is better prepared for college. ACG funds are available to qualifying students during their first or second academic years of a two-or-four-year degree program.
The first year ACG award is available to students who graduated on or after January 1, 2006. The second year ACG award is available to students who graduated on or after January 1, 2005. All eligible recipients must have completed the rigorous program of study, be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and be eligible to receive Pell Grant funds.
The maximum award for a first year student is $750 per academic year. The maximum award for a second year student is $1300 per academic year.
