HCC Awarded Entrepreneurship Video Modules Grant
Haywood Community College was recently awarded an Entrepreneurship Video Modules Grant from the Coleman Foundation, Inc. The $5000 grant will be used to create video modules to be used by students as Internet feeds and/or as a DVD format.
HCC has been a leader in providing entrepreneurship training to its students in various programs for many years. Recently, an Entrepreneurship Initiative has been implemented to incorporate entrepreneurship in every technical degree major on campus. Through these video modules, students will learn by the reinforcement of entrepreneurship concepts that have been discussed as theories with practical reality of information provided by actual business owners.
The videos will be of local business owners who will serve on small forum panels to discuss various entrepreneurship topics such as: cash flow issues; pitfalls and remedies in business ownership; customer service and managing employees; and marketing and pricing. Sixteen local business owners will be involved in this project. These videos are scheduled to be produced this spring and available for use by fall semester.
“These videos will allow students to study these entrepreneurial concepts at their own leisure,” explains HCC Instructor in Business and Accounting, David Forester. “They can study content areas they might not have grasped the first time in class. It’s a way to reinforce concepts.”
The Coleman Foundation, Inc. is a private, independent grantmaking foundation established in 1951 in Illinois. Major areas of grantmaking for the foundation are education, cancer care, and services for the disabled. Education grants are predominantly awarded to unique education institutions with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship education and awareness.
