Haywood Community College Foundation Kicks Off 2007 Annual Fund Drive

The Haywood Community College Foundation has launched its 2007 Annual Fund Drive to raise funds to support the college and its students, including grants to supplement the college’s educational programs and scholarships.

The college and the foundation have adopted a new theme for this year’s Annual Fund Drive, “You Know Us. We’re In Your Life.” The new theme reflects the wide-ranging impact of the college’s students, both curriculum and continuing education, and the many thousands of alumni, from nurses and medical assistants to contractors, furniture-makers, landscapers, and more.

Jennifer Kelley, an Office Systems Technology student at the college, is quick to give thanks to the HCC Foundation. “The scholarship offered by the foundation is helping me achieve my career goals, and I know many students who would not be able to continue their education without the foundation’s support.”

In 2006, more than 450 individuals, businesses, and foundations made gifts to the Haywood Community College Foundation, with gift sizes ranging from a few dollars to many thousands. Those donations helped the foundation provide more than $600,000 for the new Regional Center for the Advancement of Children; $70,000 in scholarships to assist 75 different students; and $25,000 in competitive grants to support new learning opportunities at the college.

“We are very thankful for all the support we received last year,” said Joetta Rinehart, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, “and we hope that everyone will be as generous as possible again this year, so we can accomplish even more in the year ahead.”

Members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors will again be leading the way for the Annual Fund Drive through their own gift-making and by asking other individuals and businesses to make a donation. “You don’t have to be a student of HCC or a graduate to know that the college is one of the best assets we have in Western North Carolina,” said foundation board member Bruce Johnson. “When you make a gift to the Haywood Community College Foundation, you can take pride in helping our students, our college, and our entire community.”
