HCC Completes Entrepreneurship Video Modules

Haywood Community College recently finished the creation of several Entrepreneurship Video Modules called Focus on Haywood County Entrepreneurs. Through a $5000 grant from the Coleman Foundation, Inc, students and all Haywood County residents have the opportunity to learn from the successes and hardships of local small business owners.

The videos consist of local business owners serving on small forum panels to discuss various entrepreneurship topics such as: cash flow issues; pitfalls and remedies in business ownership; customer service and managing employees; and marketing and pricing. The interviewers were Mark Clasby, Executive Director of the Haywood County Economic Development Commission; CeCe Hipps, Executive Director of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce; and Patricia Smith, Business Instructor in the Business & Entrepreneurship Department at HCC.

The small business owners that participated were:

Craig Bishop-The Coffee Zone; Allison Carver-Jelly Bellies; Billy Case-Billy Case, REALTORS; Grace Cathey-Grace Cathey Sculpture Garden and Gallery; Jon Feichter-New Meridian Technologies; Suzanne Gernandt-Textures; Ron Leatherwood-Clark and Leatherwood; Luke McCracken-Iron Tree Landscaping; Leslie Merrill-The Adger House Bed & Breakfast; Trish Rux-Rux Gardens; Liz Spear-Liz Spear Clay/Fiber; Jeanne Strickland-The Cabin Company; Cathy Sutton-A Cut Above Salon; Patrick Tinsley-The Sunset Organization; and Sharon Walls-Beau Monde Salon.

“The goal of the Entrepreneurship Video Modules Project is to bring our local entrepreneurs of Haywood County to the forefront,” says David Forester, HCC Department Chair of Business and Entrepreneurship. “Also, it’s essential that a lesson be learned that starting a successful small business in Haywood County is a dream that can be fulfilled. Hopefully, the videos will transform the lives of individuals who watch them.”
