There was a tea party at the Haywood Community College Learning Resource Center (LRC) recently. Alice in Wonderland was there having jam and bread, cookies, and punch. She brought several friends. They all attend HCC's Childcare Center and they came to celebrate the opening of the LRC's new Children's Corner.

The corner holds a special collection of children's books, children's furniture, beanbag chairs, an adult rocking chair, and a basket of hand puppets. The Children's Corner was funded by a mini grant from the HCC Foundation.

Mary Kautz, HCC Library Director said, "The Learning Resource Center is so excited to be joining forces with the HCC Early Childhood Education program in a collaboration that will benefit the library, the Center for the Advancement of Children, and the Early Childhood Education students, as well as the community at large. We're grateful to be taking a step in such an inspired and imaginative direction."

Students in the Early Childhood program will soon begin designing themed activity bags for a grade, which will then be donated to the LRC for checkout. The bags will include books, crafts, and other goodies all based around a central theme.

The new Children's Corner is a perfect fit with the new Center for the Advancement of Children that is currently being constructed on the HCC campus. The corner is open to the public. For more information on the LRC Children's Corner, please call 627-4550.
