Meg White of Asheville recently accepted the position of Director of Institutional Advancement at Haywood Community College. A native of Ohio, White has lived in Asheville for the past eight years. She has spent 10 years working with fundraising and non-profits, most recently for the City of Asheville.

White says an important part of her job is to build relationships with people and make a connection between the college and the community. "I feel fortunate that I'm in a career where I can see organizations make a difference in people's lives," she explains. "I can offer people who want it the opportunity to give back. I see the positive in people. Those who give gifts, I see joy and those who receive gifts get inspiration. I see a lot of good in people. It's a real blessing."

White has a bachelor's degree in Communications from Ohio University. She has been married to Curt for 21 years. They have two daughters, Emma, 20, and Allie, 17. She enjoys reading, working in the yard, decorating her home, antiquing, going to yard sales, and being involved in her daughters' activities.

"The key to being a successful person is finding something you love to do and education is the key to finding your niche in life. Community colleges fill a role that's so needed. They provide skills that students may not get somewhere else and gives everyone an opportunity."
