Haywood Community College’s Student Government Association recently won three awards at the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association annual spring conference held in Durham. The team won second place in the Tee shirt contest. The shirt was designed by Jennifer Maynor, HCC SGA Public Information Officer. The team was awarded third place in the scrapbook contest. The scrapbook is a look at all the events the association participated in during the last year, as well as snippets from each club on campus.
Amanda Dendy, HCC SGA Vice President, won the N4CSGA community service award. “As a mom of three children, I have always tried to teach that the greatest things in life come from even the smallest efforts that we make. Even one small gesture can be monumental to someone in need,” Dendy explains. “Teddy Bears for Troopers is an event that is very close to my heart because my husband has been a police officer for 19 years and has frequently seen something as simple as a teddy bear bring a moment of peace for a child in the midst of sheer terror and chaos. I do not feel that I am worthy of any award, I just feel that I am doing my part in making the lives of those around me just a little better.”
The competition was open to all 58 community colleges in the state.
