Haywood Community College recently held an English as a Second Language (ESL) Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Eighteen certificates were awarded to students from Mexico, the Philippines, Macedonia, and Ecuador.
Lead ESL instructor Ellen Welles was presented a certificate of appreciation at the event. Students prepared food from their respective countries for the dinner.
There are currently 68 students enrolled in HCC’s ESL program representing Ukraine, Guatemala, Venezuela, Bulgaria, and Cambodia. Classes are offered at the 1200 Building on Rush Road, at the HCC West Waynesville Campus across from the new Wal-Mart, and at Clyde Central United Methodist Church behind the Clyde Fire Department.
