Haywood Community College recently selected a full-time and a part-time employee for the Superior Staff Award. Misty Guge, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, is the full-time recipient while Switchboard and Events Scheduler Tina Brown was awarded the part-time award. The award goes to a staff member who exemplifies the highest standards and professionalism in the workplace and who consistently demonstrate excellence in service to their college, students, and their communities.

Guge served as co-chair of the College’s Advisory Council for the 2008-09 term. Co-chair is elected by fellow members of the council and serves alongside the president to lead the meetings and develop the agenda, as well as to participate in the Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees meetings. She has worked at the college for five years beginning in the Human Resources Department.

While Guge is a native of Haywood County, she spent five years in Knoxville before returning to the area. She has an Associate degree in Paralegal Studies from South College in Knoxville, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Liberty University, and plans to pursue a master’s degree next year.

Guge says she enjoys the students and the people she works with at HCC. “I enjoy my surroundings and the spirit of what we’re here for. I enjoy the opportunity to get to know the students and help them. It is challenging and never boring.”

Guge says she enjoys fixing up the house she recently moved into and working in the yard.

“I am very blessed to be a part of this college and community,” she says.

Brown started work at HCC in 2005 for the Community Services Department and a secretary/receptionist. She then became a Human Resources Assistant. She has worked in her current position since 2006.

Before coming to HCC, Brown was a stay at home mom to her two sons Dakota and Jarred. She also worked at Moore’s Land Surveying.

Brown says she loves the people at HCC and the chance to meet new people. “We are a close knit group,” she explains. “It’s such a friendly working environment.”

During her free time, Brown spends a lot of time at the ball field supporting her sons and she is involved in her church, Dellwood Baptist.

Misty Guge, HCC Assistant Director of Financial Aid, is the full-time recipient of the college’s Superior Staff Award.
