Around 200 people from counties around Western North Carolina recently attended a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Event held on the campus of Haywood Community College. The event was cosponsored by the Southwestern Child Development Commission and HCC’s Early Childhood Department.

Sue Russell, President of the NAEYC Governing Board and Executive Director of Child Care Services, was the speaker at the event.  NAEYC is the Association that is the guiding force in Early Childhood Education. This agency provides TEACH scholarships for early childhood students in community colleges and four year universities.

Russell talked about the changes that have already occurred in child care, future changes, and funding and quality issues.
