The Alternative Learning Center recently held an open house to showcase new sustainable garden that students in the Summer Youth Employment Program created. The Center is a partnership between Haywood Community College and the Haywood County School System which offers high school level classes year round for students who have not graduated and are not attending traditional high school classes. There are 35 students in the summer program.
Community partners provided plants, lumber, and mulch for the garden. The project was presented an Honorary Award Certificate from the Green Education Network for the organic school garden and buy local commitment.
