Haywood Community College instructor Jeremy Phillips will have his artwork on display at Gallery 86 in Waynesville beginning on Wednesday, August 26 through Saturday, September 19. The show, “Layers of Meaning,” is held in conjunction with fellow artist Carol Bomer. A reception will be held on Friday, September 4 from 6-9 p.m. This is Phillips second show at Gallery 86 and previously had a show in London.
At HCC, Phillips teaches religion, film, and humanities. In addition to traditional college students, he also teaches Haywood Early College and Advanced College Track students.
Before returning to North Carolina, Phillips worked as director of a religious studies program for a non-profit organization in England. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UNC-Asheville in philosophy and a Master’s degree in Theology from Westminster Seminary. He spent 14 years doing pottery before turning his concentration to painting.
Phillips says he enjoys exposing students at HCC to things they’ve not been exposed to. “I like the eagerness and openness I see in the students at HCC.”
Phillips has four children. He enjoys working on screenplays and hiking. For more information on Phillips’ show, please contact Gallery 86 at 452.0593 or visit the Haywood County Arts Council website.
