Faculty and staff members at Haywood Community College are making final preparations for the start of spring semester 2011. Class schedules for both Curriculum and Continuing Education Courses are online at www.haywood.edu.

Prospective students are encouraged to complete the application process as soon as possible. Student Services staff are available to answer questions about the application process, financial aid, or any of HCC's more than 50 programs of study.

Final registration is Thursday, January 6 and Friday January 7. Student Services hours are 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday. The first day of spring semester is Monday, January 10, 2011.

HCC offers many courses through the Continuing Education program. From nurse aid or computer technology classes to notary or quilting classes, there is sure to be a courseof special interest to everyone. Whether looking to upgrade job skills in a present job, acquire skills for a new job, or just to learn something for the fun of it, HCC has it all.

In addition, there are several unique courses available through the curriculum offerings. The Photovoltaic Systems Technology course introduces the concepts, tools, techniques, and materials needed to understand systems that convert solar energy into electricity with photovoltaic technologies. Topics include site analysis for system integration, building codes, and advances in photovoltaic technology. This class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. with a lab on Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12:20 p.m.

Spring semester may be the perfect time to try out something new such as Yoga I. This course introduces the basic discipline of yoga. Topics include proper breathing, relaxation techniques, and correct body positions. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the procedures of yoga. It is offered Monday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 4:50 p.m.
