Haywood Community College students participated in the National Career Development Association’s 45th Annual Poetry and Poster Contest, Celebrating My Career Dreams on National Career Development Day November 17. Professional Crafts-Fiber student Gwen Clifford won first place. HCC Professional Crafts-Fiber student Andrew Bennett won second place. Third place went to Medical Insurance Coding student Hope Smathers. These winners will be submitted to the state contest.

Criteria for judging included: originality, creativity, and development of the theme. Poems were evaluated on appropriate form, execution, spelling, and grammar. Posters were evaluated on the appropriate use of media, lettering, and basic principles of art. HCC’s SGA provided Wal-Mart gift cards to the winners in the denominations of $25, $15, and $10.
