Haywood Community College students recently completed requirements for the Fire Academy course through the college’s Continuing Education Department. These students completed over 225 hours to become qualified as Level I or Level II firefighters in the state of North Carolina.

According to instructor Leonard Davis, the course teaches the basics plus what to expect in different instances while working as a firefighter such as: handling wrecks, wild land fires, rescue, or dealing with a structure fire with a person inside.

Davis has been with the Waynesville Fire Department for 12 years as a safety officer.
