The Small Business Center of Haywood Community College will offer a free seminar on business lending through the NC Rural Center Microenterprise program on Tuesday, April 10, from 6-8 pm on campus in the Student Center, first floor. The North Carolina Rural Center’s Microenterprise Loan program is designed to: promote self-employment, encourage small business creation, and boost economic independence.

Three micro-loans are offered and can be applied for and partially processed by HCC’s Small Business Center:

  • Traditional Microenterprise Loan - Loans up to $25,000
  • Express Loan - Loans $5000 and Less
  • "Green" Micro Loan - Loans up to $25,000

Mary Cox, Program Coordinator for the Microenterprise Loan Program is the presenter. Cox states, “This program was designed to meet the needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs in the 85 rural counties of NC.  In this challenging economy, we are reaching out to those who may not qualify for a traditional bank loan.”

Amanda Sorrells with the NC Rural Center’s New Generation Ventures initiative will discuss this program that offers scholarships, business counseling and access to capital for young people ages 18-30 who what to start and grow their own businesses in rural North Carolina.
