During an Earth Day Celebration, Haywood Community College held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its electric vehicle charging station. This is the only electric vehicle charging station west of Asheville. The station was made possible from a grant provided by Advanced Energy Corporation, with assistance in implementation from the Land of Sky Regional Council.
“This campus has embraced sustainability in some many ways,” explains HCC President Dr. Rose Johnson. “The college has taken a lead role in education and is a wonderful example to the community.”
“This was a highly localized sourced project,” says Preston Jacobsen, HCC Sustainability Analyst. “The charging station is a Level 2 Charger manufactured by Eaton located in Arden with the installer based out of Asheville.”
According to Bill Eaker, Land of Sky Regional Council Environmental Services Manager, while it is important to use funds wisely, it is equally important to use natural resources wisely. “Dr. Johnson is a leader nationally in sustainability. We are all working together to do a lot at the community college level.”
HCC’s Electric Vehicle Charging Station is located in the upper level parking lot of the Student services Building. It is free for use to the public. For more information about the station, please call Jacobsen at 828-565-4033.
