Haywood Community College’s Continuing Education Department is offering two crafting workshops just in time to create handmade holiday gifts. Students may choose from the Twined Basketry Workshop or the Holiday Felting Workshop. Participants will leave the class with a finished product.
The Twined Basketry Workshop will be held at the Harrell Center at Lake Junaluska. Students from age 7 to 97 will learn the twined technique and complete a small basket. This easy to master basket form will give students the understanding to try more ambitious baskets on their own or in follow-up classes.
This class will take place at the Harrell Center at Lake Junaluska in conjunction with the Christmas Craft Fair. Instructor supplies all the colorful hand dyed reeds, tools and patterns. Cost of the Twined Basketry Workshop is $15. There will be three sessions to choose from on Saturday, December 8: 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., 12:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., or 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The Holiday Felting Workshop will cover making forms in felt and projects will vary from Christmas stockings and elves, to small gifts like eyeglass cases and wine bottle holders.
The Holiday Felting Workshop will be held on Friday, December 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. with one hour for lunch. The cost of this workshop is $58 which includes instruction, wools, silks, and all supplies necessary for a completed project.
