Haywood Community College will offer a Nursing Assistant I class on weekends beginning January 17. The classes will be held on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The weekend classes are a way for the college to provide support to students and members of the community who wish to explore opportunities to begin their college careers or obtain training that can lead to rewarding employment.
“This is a great opportunity to provide valuable training to those individuals who want to train for rewarding careers helping others while training only two weekend days," HCC Allied Health Coordinator Sandy Fischer stated. "There is an ongoing need for nursing assistants. The nursing assistant plays a vital role on the healthcare team and the training provided at HCC provides students with valuable skills and experience they can use when furthering their education in other areas of healthcare."
A nursing assistant is a trained professional who supports the nursing staff primarily by providing basic care for patients. The job requires the ability to lift and move patients, feed and bathe patients and to care for frail or elderly patients who cannot care for themselves. Nursing assistants must have great people skills, empathy and the ability to care for patients with varied needs.
In addition to the weekend class, HCC offers nursing assistant training weekdays and evenings throughout the year. For more information, call (828) 565-4145 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
