The Small Business Center of Haywood Community College will offer a seminar, “Modern Tourism Drivers for the Small Business Owner: Authenticity, Community & Sustainability,” Thursday, November 6, from 6 – 9pm in the Haywood Community College Creative Arts Building.

In today’s times, millennials and baby boomers alike are turning to small towns and other unique destinations to feed their desire for increased human interaction, enrichment, heritage and creativity. In order to tell the story of the communities in which we live, work and play we must understand how to leverage tourism as a resource to build community, demonstrate sustainability and celebrate authenticity.

This dynamic presentation will serve as an introduction to these concepts and result in the beginnings of a strategic plan in order to gain local buy-in, ensure consistent levels of service and impact visitation.

Speaker, Cortina J. Caldwell, founded Visit & Venture, LLC as her answer to connect the local community with hospitality/tourism products and partners through service collaboration (partnerships), entrepreneurial development (programs) and product innovation (promotions). At the age of 28, Cortina boasts fifteen years of combined experience in public speaking, service, sales, hospitality, product development, advocacy, leadership training professional development and principle-centered collaboration. In Spring 2014, Cortina became one of the youngest members in the history of Board of Directors for the Asheville Area Arts Council and the 33rd Class of Leadership Asheville.
