Haywood Community College recently held a Scholarship Recognition Event where scholarship donors were able to meet the students who were awarded scholarships. The event was held at the Wells Event Center.
About 115 curriculum students and 43 continuing education students received scholarships this academic year. An additional 67 students received scholarships from outside sources. Around $220,000 was awarded through the HCC Foundation and outside scholarships. Scholarships offered at HCC include curriculum, continuing education, tools and technology, and high school equivalency scholarships.
The Steven G. Eason Endowment Fund in Fisheries and Wildlife is a new scholarship this year. It was established to honor Eason’s life and dedication to aquaculture. In recognition, Eason’s family was in attendance. The first of its kind to be profiled by the college, this scholarship will provide financial aid for the recipient as well as hands-on experience in fisheries management with an internship at Sunburst Trout Farms.
“Donors give to the HCC Foundation because they believe in education and the change it can make in the lives of students,” said Sherri Myers, HCC Director of Institutional Advancement. “They believe in HCC and the education we provide. Our donors make a difference in the lives of our students.”
