Haywood Community College ranks number one in the nation for 2015-2016 Best Online College according to AccreditedSchoolsOnline.org (ASO).
“We are extremely pleased to receive this national honor,” says HCC President, Dr. Barbara Parker. “Several of our programs are exclusively online and all of our programs have online options. The success of our students is our top priority and our online options provide pathways for students to seek higher education when they might not be able to do so via traditional face-to-face coursework.”
Accredited Schools Online has distinguished its ranking scale by the use of Peer-Based Value. This score compares the cost of each program to the cost of similar programs with the same qualitative score.
According to Cheryl Fulghum, HCC Coordinator of Distance Learning, “The Division of Instruction at HCC strives to meet the demands and needs of an increasingly diverse population of students. The notion that learning can only take place in a brick and mortar classroom during traditional school hours is fleeting. The demand for online classes will continue to rise, and we are committed to keeping up with that demand in our number of program offerings and quality of instruction.”
HCC offers 23 unique degree programs, diplomas and certificates. Students come to HCC for many reasons, some of which include enhancing their skills in the workplace, earning a certificate to supplement higher learning, or to begin a transfer degree. The college offers more than 15 degrees that can be completed entirely or partially online. The student to teacher ratio is 9:1.
HCC’s Fish and Wildlife Management and Forest Management Technology associate degree programs are uniquely accredited and are the only two of their kind offered in the state. Also unique to the college are the Professional Crafts programs of Clay, Fiber, Jewelry, and Wood. These programs prepare students to successfully operate their own craft businesses.
“We wanted to highlight schools that have made it a point to ensure academic quality standards through accreditation” said Doug Jones, CEO and Founder of Accredited Schools Online. “These schools are not only offering exceptional programs, but they have expanded their program’s excellence to the much-desired online environment.”
