Ben Kniceley, Haywood Community College 2014 Fish and Wildlife Management Technology and 2015 Forest Management Technology graduate, finished third place recently in the STIHL Timbersports Rookie of the World Competition. The event was held in the Austrian Alps.

Before coming to HCC, the Shelby native had never heard of Timbersports. Growing up playing baseball, he knew he had to do some sport to stay busy. For this year and next, Kniceley is competing in the Stihl Professional Series.

Kniceley is the Assistant County Ranger for the North Carolina Forest Service in Duplin County. He enjoys the variety of the job and to be able to work outdoors. Some of the tasks of his job includes forest management, fire control management, and prescribed burns.

Fall registration is underway now. Please call 627-4500 to learn about the registration process. For more information about HCC’s Natural Resources Programs, please call 627-4560.
