Haywood Community College’s Student Association of Medical Assistants (SAMA) recently donated $200 to the Haywood Healthcare Foundation Nurse Navigator program. The students held various fundraisers for breast cancer awareness month to raise money.

According to HCC Medical Assisting instructor Larry Davis, “The students took on this project wholeheartedly. They wanted to keep the funds local so the Haywood Healthcare Foundation Nurse Navigator program was a perfect choice.”

According to its website, Haywood Healthcare Foundation partners with nonprofit organizations and community agencies to improve access to healthcare in Haywood County. The mission of the foundation is to improve the health status of Haywood County, its individuals, and families through educational programs, grants, scholarships and leadership opportunities.

“This donation is great,” explains Marge Stiles, Haywood Healthcare Foundation Administrator. “The money will be used to help patients with cancer be able to get to their appointments and in turn, help our community.”
