Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the months of May and June. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.  

DSLR Camera Basics will be held Tuesdays May 8 through 29, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $60. This class will cover the ins and outs of shooting in full manual mode.

OSHA 10-Hour Certification will be held May 15 and 16, 4-9 p.m. Cost is $85. This course is designed for employees or managers to understand the basic safety standards for general industry as outlined by OSHA.

Instrument Building (Guitars) will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings, May 14 through June 20, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $380. Students will learn all the skills necessary to design and construct an acoustic guitar.

Forklift Operator Certification will be held May 29 and 30, as well as June 26 and 27, 5-9:00 p.m. Cost is $75. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will earn a forklift operator’s certificate.

Surface Design with Natural Dyes will be held Tuesdays June 5 through July 24, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $377. Students will leave with a palette of colors in the form of a sample book and at least a yard of fabric they have designed and created.

Fly Rod Making will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings June 12 through August 7, 7-9 p.m. Cost is $360. Participants will build or restore their own fly rod and cast in the College’s Mill Pond. 

Escort Vehicle Operator Recertification will be held April 24. Cost is $75. This course is designed to meet the training requirements set by the NC Department of Transportation to certify oversize-overweight load escort vehicle drivers.

Introduction to QuickBooks 2018 will be held in June. Participants will learn how to use QuickBooks to manage customers, vendors and employee accounting needs.

In addition, HCC’s workforce continuing education department offers Community First Aid and CPR classes the third Tuesday of each month 6-10:00 p.m. HCC is Haywood County’s American Heart Association Training Center.
