Haywood Community College’s new Timbersports Facility is currently under construction. Located near the Mill Pond, the primary use of the facility is a practice space for the team but the site is well suited for use of other events on campus. The facility is completely donor funded and is designed by the HCC campus development team.
The Haywood Community College timbersports team routinely outperforms other two-year schools as well as teams from four-year universities. In late March, they claimed first place at the Mid-Atlantic States Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet held at the Haywood County Fairgrounds. HCC student Darby Hand took first place in the STIHL Timbersports Collegiate Series Mid-Atlantic Qualifier. As a result, he will compete in the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Milwaukee in late July. HCC has had three national collegiate champions, more than any other college.
