Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the month of October. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.
Intermediate Weaving: Floor Loom will be held Wednesdays, October 2 through November 6, 1-5 p.m. Cost is $227. Participants will leave with a completed scarf or set of towels and a list of new ideas and places to start.
Quilting will be held Wednesdays, October 2 through December 11 or Fridays, October 4 through December 13, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Cost is $191. This project-based course is designed for individuals interested in learning the art of quilting. An additional class will be held Thursdays, October 3 through December 12, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $155.
Intermediate Instrument Building: Dulcimer will be held Wednesdays, October 2 through November 6, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $204. This course is open to students with a comfortable understanding of woodworking.
WorkKeys Testing will be held Thursdays, October 3, October 17 and October 31, 5:30-10 p.m.
Notary Public will be held Saturday, October 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification for becoming a notary.
ABS Introduction to Bladesmithing will be held October 7 through 18, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cost is $1006.25. Students need to bring their own safety equipment for the classes including eye protection, leather chaps, set of gloves for hot material, set of leather gloves for protection, and hearing protection.
Woodworking on a Budget will be held Mondays, October 7 through November 18, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $204. Students will garner a strong understanding of basic handheld power tools, as well as expand their abilities with hand tools while they work to craft a fine side table.
Lighting for Portraits and Products will be held Tuesdays, October 15 through November 5, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $111. Students should have a general working knowledge of their camera including how to change aperture, shutter speed, white balance and ISO.
Conversational German will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 15 through November 14, 5-6:30 p.m. Cost is $140. This course will focus on the actual use of the German language in everyday situations.
Small Camp Knife will be held Friday through Sunday, October 18 through 20, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $265. Students will be instructed on how to construct a 5” full tang small camp knife, including handle material selection, pin stock, adhesives and overall finish techniques.
In addition, HCC’s workforce continuing education department offers Community CPR classes on the second Wednesday of each month. HCC is Haywood County’s American Heart Association Training Center.
