The Small Business Center at Haywood Community College and the Western Women’s Business Center will offer a free seminar “Labor Matters for Your Business” Tuesday, October 22, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the College’s Regional High Technology Center room 3021.

Does your small business have employees or are you thinking of hiring? Participants in this seminar will learn about wage and hour terms, wage and overtime requirements, youth employment, record keeping requirements, wage deductions and exemptions.

The presenter will be Lori Burns, senior investigator with the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Bureau. She is responsible for handling complaints for wage payment, minimum wage, overtime, youth employment and E-Verify. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
