Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the month of November. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.  

Notary Public will be held Saturday, November 2, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification for becoming a notary.

Career Ready 101 orientation will be held Tuesday, November 5. This course will prepare students for the National Career Readiness Certificate and other ACT WorkKeys testing required by local employers.

Medication Aide will be held November 7, 12 and 14, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Cost is $80. This course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified as a medication aide.

Goat Milk Lavender Oatmeal Soap will be held Saturday, November 9, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sunday, November 10, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost is $75. Each student will make and take home two pounds of goat milk process lavender oatmeal soap.

Quilting + Color Explorations will be held Tuesdays, November 12 through December 17, 5-8 p.m. Cost is $205. Participants will leave the class with a finished quilt and tons of new ideas to explore.

Advanced Instrument Building:  Guitars will be held Tuesdays, November 12 through December 17, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $204. Students will complete at least one instrument of their own creation.

Advanced Weaving:  Floor Loom will be held Wednesdays and Fridays, November 13 through December 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $227. This course is open to anyone who is comfortable dressing the loom and would like to dive in deeper to learning about complex weave structures.

WorkKeys Testing will be held Thursday, November 14 and Wednesday, November 27, 5:30-10 p.m.

Friction Folder will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 16 through 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $199. Students will be instructed on how to construct a friction folder knife, including handle material selection, pin stock and overall finish techniques.

Career Planning will be held Tuesday, November 19 through Thursday, November 21, 6-10 p.m.

Woodworking on a Budget 3 will be held Mondays, November 25 through December 9, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $204. This course will place an emphasis on making the craft of woodworking an enjoyable and attainable hobby for anyone.

iPhone Photography will be held Tuesdays, November 19 through December 10, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $111. This course will discuss how to use the default apps as well as third-party applications to make stunning photographs that were once only possible with dedicated lens cameras.

In addition, HCC’s workforce continuing education department offers Community CPR classes on the second Wednesday of each month. HCC is Haywood County’s American Heart Association Training Center.
